New 3D cities: some new, some ancient

Google has brought out a handful of new 3D cities in the past few days.  Today saw the release of Seattle and Pittsburgh, both of which now have hundreds of full-color buildings and look excellent.  Here is a shot from Pittsburgh.

 

A few days ago, Google unveiled a new layer for Google Earth that has over 5700 hundred buildings from ancient Rome rebuilt in 3D.  It’s a slow-loading collection, but it is amazing.  Here is a short video introducing the new layer:

when will they have soem cities in Centroamerica
like San Salvador and Managua
and would love to see Sexta Avenida en Cali, Colombia

“3D Histórico Georreferenciado” é o tema da Tese de Mestrado de Pedro Gomes onde desenvolveu modelos em 3D do Lago do Gadanha, o Castelo de Evoramonte e as Torres da Couraça, do Município de Estremoz. Tornando-se um projecto pioneiro no concelho de Estremoz, um dos principais objectivos foi o desenvolvimento de alguns dos edifícios históricos mais importantes do concelho, existindo muitos outros ainda por desenvolver.
A dinamização do concelho, uma maior promoção turística, a cooperação na conservação do património, através da disponibilização dos modelos para navegação na Internet (Google Earth), foram os pontos de partida que originaram no objectivo final do projecto, o acesso a qualquer cidadão e em qualquer local.
