"Fortaleza's history began when the Dutch constructed the Fort Schoonenborch in 1649. Later, the Portuguese expelled the Dutch and renamed it to Forte de Nossa Senhora da Assunção. All fortifications around Plymouth

All fortifications around Plymouth

The first stone defences in Plymouth were those of the 15th century Plymouth Castle of which only a very small part of one tower remains near the Citadel. Previous to this the main local defences were at Plympton, but the importance of this castle faded as the River Plym silted up.

In the first half of the 16th century six blockhouses were built along the shore. A fort was constr...

Ring of fortresses around Liege

Ring of fortresses around Liege

Liege place is quite rich in fortifications from all the periods. By the way, several sites are dedicated to the fortifications anterior to the 18th century. As far as I am concerned, I will limit myself to the works constructed after 1885, wich already gives me quite a lot of work.

So in Liege, we have the twelve forts of the first world war, builded all around the city, on the ...
