One of the biggest dams in Germany. Destroyed during WWII by British bombers. Built up in 1911-1914 to produce electricity, although three villages were flooded. The ruins can be seen in summer when less water is in the lake.
The Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Plant, largest in operation in the world, is a binational undertaking developed by Brazil and Paraguay in the Paranß River. The installed power of the plant is 12,600 MW (megawatts), with 18 generator units of 700 MW each.
