Villa Principe Leopoldo, perched atop the fabled "Golden Hill" which dominates the city of Lugano, is named after Prince Frederic Leopold of Prussia, a distinguished cavalry general and member of the German Hohenzollern Dynasty, which ascended the throne of Prussia with Frederic William in 1701 and then became first rulers of the new German empire on its creation on 1871.
In 1989 Erik and Lyle Menendez shot their parents at this address. The heartbroken kids eased their suffering by buying among other things a resturant, new Porsche and Carribean cruise. Million-dollar homes are nothing unusual in the SF Bay Area, but this set of ten- and twenty-million dollar spreads, replete with pools, tennis courts, guest houses, you-name-it, seems to stand out. Enjoy the view, but don't look for too long, you'll probably get arrested for loitering....
