GRES-2 Coal Power Plant

GRES-2 Coal Power Plant

This is a very large coal burning power plant in eastern Kazakhstan, with what is reported to be the tallest chimney in the world (420m). There should be another station very similar nearby, called GRES-1, although I can't locate it myself. This power station is just north of the worlds largest open-cast coal mine, the Bogatyr mine.

The romantic Drachenfels (1010 ft.), crowned by the ruins of a castle built early in the 12th century by the archbishop of Cologne, rises behind the town.
