Description: Mona is a small island, located about 45 miles west of Mayagüez. It is uninhabited by people, although it is said that native indians resided in it centuries ago and that its name derives from one of the indian chiefs.
The island has been declared a national refuge for wild life, which includes several species endemic to the island.
