Description: Cecil Commerce Centre, named after a Navy pilot, was set up just before World War II.
At 22,939 acres, the Naval Air Station Cecil Field complex was the largest military base in the Jacksonville, Florida, area. It was comprised of four separate facilities, the Cecil Field Complex (Cecil Field), the Outlying Field ("OLF") Whitehouse, the Yellow Water Weapons Department and the Pinecastle [Pine Castle] Electronic Warfare Target Area / Warfare Range.
The runways at Cecil Commerce Centre consist of two sets of parallel runways. The North/South runways consists of one runway which is 12,500 feet and one which 8,000 feet. The East/West runways are each 8,000 feet in length.
The Cecil Field Naval Air Station closed in 1999. However, it may soon become a commercial spaceport where civilians would be sent into space.
