Description: Rotterdam Zoo. With its visitor count of around 1.5 million people a year (2005), the Rotterdam Zoo (Diergaarde Blijdorp) is one of the biggest attractions in the Netherlands.
The history of this zoo goes as far back as 1856 when two employees of the local railway company rented an area of ground to accommodate rare birds.
