Small non-nuclear submarine actually designed for operating in littoral waters like the North Sea these subs also crossed the Atlantic Ocean and sailed into New York City.
The first boats of the 206-class were built in the early / mid 60's and 'upgraded' to 206A in the late 80's. The first boats were decommissioned in the late 90's and will be replaced soon by the 212-class.
