Description: The historic Neuman Observatory, at Carroll College, in Helena, Montana, USA, has a brand new Meade LX200 GPS telescope guided by a global positioning satellite.
Rotness, president of the Astronomical Institute of the Rockies, said the 14-inch scope , valued at more than $5,000, was installed in April, along with a new shake-proof mount.
The 14-inch aperture telescope is the most advanced the college has ever operated in the observatory and serves as a science outreach tool for students and the public each week. This year, the Neuman Observatory is celebrating its 70th anniversary as the oldest, continually operating astronomical observatory in Montana.
The historic observatory opened on campus in 1937. The college has since grown up and the city has spread out in all directions. |
