Description: The route will pass through remote areas of high intensity
earthquakes, low temperature and atmospheric pressure.
Approximately 780 km (485 mi) of the line will be laid at
an elevation of 4,500-5,000 m (14,765-16,405 ft), with the
highest point reaching 5,072 m (16,641 ft) at the Dangla
(Ch: Tanggula) Mountain pass. At elevations in excess
of 4,000 m (13,124 ft), the low oxygen content causes
high failure rates of combustion engines and machinery,
high/low tension electric equipment, and can have serious
effects on human health. |
