Description: Butzweilerhof was the Cologne main airport before world war II and iIn the 1920s and 1930s Germanys second biggest airport after Berlin Tempelhof. In 1954 replaced by Airport Cologne/Bonn in the Wahner Heide.
After the war the area was used by Belgian Army til the early 1980s. During the 1990s several concerts took place, e.g. Bizarre 1996 -1998 and U2 Pop Mart.
On the actual (June 2006) picture you can see the building of the TV-Studios of the MMC Multi Media Company, the so called Coloneum. In reality the building is completed since several years and other new buildings (NetCologne, SSK) have been build in the south of it. In the old main hall of the airport an exihibition of German aviation history can be visited. |
