Description: The fortress lies on a mountain comb, which separates the Woehrsee from the old part of town. The core castle lies completely in front on the comb. In the course of the centuries this was expanded on the comb toward the south on a length from 1042 m and is the biggest and longest in Europe. Castle-live praises itself to have thereby the longest castle of Europe. 3 neck ditches divide the fortress into 4 ranges. On the fortress area are accommodated an academy for arts (Athance Akademy) and 3 museums (historical city museum, photograph museum, torture museum and castle museum), as well as an old people's home. In addition some parts of the castle are regularly inhabited. |
