Description: The Germans considered Vlissingen an important town because of the mouth of the Westerschelde that was the entrance to the port of Antwerp. Vlissingen got the status of Verteidigungsbereich.
Verteidigungsbereich Vlissingen consisted of coastal batteries and anti-aircraft batteries. At the northern edge of the town was a small airfield. At the inland a rather extensive Landfront protected Vlissingen.
Later Vlissingen became part of Festung Walcheren.
