Description: In 1931 work was started to build a position at Kornwerderzand at the Afsluitdijk. In 1934 the Stelling Kornwerderzand was put into use. It consisted of 17 casemates. The object of this position was to stop the advance of an enemy from the east (Germany). This was a success! During the first days of the German invasion in the Netherlands, several German attacks were repulsed. Finally the defenders had to give up because of the Dutch capitulation on May 15th, 1940.
Subsequently the Germans used this position, especially from 1943 on. They built another 3 bunkers here.
