Skamlingsbanken a danish national site

Description: Skamlingsbanken at Christiansfeld is the highest point in South Denmark with 113 meters.
1843 it became national site and fiests were held for the danish national feeling.
In the center is a pillar remembering the danish cause but 1863 it was blown up by prussians but re-rised 1866. You can still see the damages from the blow up. Beside the pillar is the flag pole with the danish flag, Dannebrog.

To the north is a 16 meters tall bell tower remembering 18 danish resistance members from the german occupation 1940 to 1945. Every day at 12pm, 3pm and 6pm the bells play the first tunes of St Georges March, which became famous in Denmark as a tune to gather Denmark against the germans. Every time the news from BBC appeared in the radio they began vith this tune.

Today every summer the Royal Danish Opera are having a concert here.
