Description: 1925 the airport Dortmund Brackel was opened with the route Copenhagen-Hamburg-Bremen-Dortmund-Frankfurt/Main-Stuttgart-Zurich and soon after following cities came on to direct flights: Hannover, Berlin, Halle, Leipzig, Bremen, Hamburg, Frankfurt/Main and Amsterdam.
1928 8,000 take offs and landings and was the second most important airport in Western Germany. Only Cologne was more important.
1930 there were 120,000 spectators on the airport because the zeppeliner Graf Zeppelin was landing. 1939 the civil use was closed and the german luftwaffe took over until they left on march 28th. 1945.
After the war the Royal Air Force and later the british Rhinearmy took over until they left.
You can still see the old buildings of the military airport at the southern part of the airport.
The first buildings were demolished 2003.
Today it houses a golf course and the german football team Borrussia Dortmund has their traing grounds here.
