Description: On november 3rd. 2004 one of the worst accidents in newer time hit this suburb (Seest) of Kolding when a an explosion happened on a firework factory on this ground.
Tho workers on the factory were unloading a 40 foot container with fireworks when they dropped a box full of rockets. The rockets exploded and the fire rapidly moved to the rest of the fireworks in the container and another 40 foot container. Then a big explosion came at 3:25pm.
The fire went to the storage buildings with the main part of the fireworks were kept, approximately 800 tons.
When this amount of fireworks exploded at 5:45pm by 3 big explosions it caused a big earthquake of 2,2 on the Richter scale.
The explosions sent pieces of concrete, bricks, girders and plates of the roof several hundred meters away.
At that time the police had evacuated most of the nearby residents.
All in one 760 houses with 2000 people were evacuated. Many of them saw their house again 3 days later. 355 houses were damaged, 176 so much that the residents couldnít come back soon. 75 so bad they had to be demolished and build up again. Authorities estimated damages of 750 mio Danish kroner, 100 mio Euro.
Also 12 companies in the area were hit the their grounds were bought by the municipality of Kolding and used for new houses.
One firefighter were killed at the first explosion and two others seriously wounded.
Thursday night November 4th. the fire were under control by the firefighters and finally extinguished Sunday morning.
After the accident the insurance companies promised fast and unbureaucratic help but even today many of the victims are fighting against the companies.
