Description: Max Mols was built by Incat of Tasmania in 1998 (yard number 48). She was chartered to Cat-Link/Scandlines as Cat-Link IV, and entered service between Århus and Kalundborg in May 1998. In January 1999 her charter passed to Mols Linien and she was renamed Max Mols. She entered service between Århus and Sjællands Odde in April 1999. There was insuffient traffic for a two-ship service, and sister Mads Mols (4) was laid up in Århus during the early months of 2000, returning to Århus-Sjællands Odde service in April 2000, at which point Max Mols was laid up. She was then chartered to Marine Atlantic in Canada, operating a summer service between North Sydney and Port Aux Basques until September, when she returned to Århus. Her next major charter was not until the summer of 2002 when she ran for Riga Sea Line between Riga and Nynäshamn until September 2002. In March 2004, Max Mols was chartered to P&O for Caen-Portsmouth service under the marketing name Caen Express. The P&O charter ended in October 2004, after which she was again used on Århus-Sjællands Odde. |
