Description: On to the Cape Prior and Cape Prioriño positions to see the remains of the two-gun 15-in batteries and the four 6-in batteries. Each position also had an AA battery of four 10.5 cm Vickers guns in a monolithic concrete structure. These batteries had all the guns removed and were in a vandalized state. The 15-in guns had unfenced wells, and one could enter them by going down steps or slopes to see the wreckage of the magazines and machine rooms; a sad sight - the guns were only cut up and dismantled in 1997. The 6-in battery positions were below the 15-in batteries, in line in a monobloc arrangement as usual, with ammunition storage below the guns. |
