Description: The wind- and water mills in Denmark have a long history since the first water mills were build near monasteries around year 1100. Around 1234 the first wind mill was build in Skaane in Sweden.
Since then every city and village had their own mill.
Around 1900 there were around 5000 mills in Denmark but today there only around 500-600 mills. Around 275 in very good condition, the rest are falling down. It’s too expensive to keep them “alive”.
Many mills, especially water mills were rebuild to housings or storage locations.
I have collected 474 wind and water mills from every region of Denmark on this file. Most of the mills have links with photos of them.
