Description: The 26-acre Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark marks the water park chain's third Texas location (the original is in New Braunfels, and a second park is in South Padre Island). It is also among the industry's first to include a retractable roof, which allows the park to remain open year-round by converting into an indoor water park during cold or inclement weather.
Like the other Schlitterbahn parks, the Galveston Island site is jam-packed with an impressive variety of slides and water rides, including a MasterBlaster uphill water coaster (a wild concept that the Schlitterbahn folks invented), the Boogie Bahn simulated surfing attraction, and The Torrent, a "tidal wave" river that's anything but lazy. An innovative "Transpotainment" system (another Schlitterbahn original) links many of the outdoor attractions and allow guests to ride a lazy river from one ride to the next without having to de-tube and wait in line. |
