Description: In 1953 when Greenland became an equal part of the Danish kingdom, many Danes came to Qaqortoq to start up the municipal administration. This meant that the town grew rapidly and the agriculture, which had been here since the 1800‘s had to move somewhere else.
Upernaviarsuk was the place, very close to Qaqortoq, where today‘s agricultural test farming takes place. It is a service for the sheep farmers in Greenland which should give the sheep farmers some idea of what grasses they should use; what way they should breed the sheep.
Here they also cultivate fruits, vegetables and plants. The only place in Greenland where the climate allows it. |
