Description: This is the fourth cemetary in Nuuk. The three others are marked too.
Funerals in Greenland are a problem because you can't dig a hole like we do. There is a low level of soil to dig down, then you hit the cliff.
The coffin is placed as normal and covered by the soil. Then the grave is marked by small stones and plastic flowes (Normal flowers are very expensive in Greenland). Finally a white cross are placed at the grave.
The dead body is mummified because of the arctic climate, the cemetary is closed when the last place is used.
A funeral car doesn't exist. The coffin is carried by the family truck, or a truck used by a friend. The cross is carried by the nearest family.
Undertakers doesn't exist either. The families buy the coffins at the local timber merchant companies or made by themselves if it's in one of the small villages around Greenland.
