Description: The death toll from fierce forest fires in Greece has risen to 63, as dozens of fires continued today to burn out of control, officials said.
On Sunday, they continued to consume homes and threatened the ruins where the Olympic Games were first played. The government had warned that little progress was made on Sunday in putting out the 44 separate fires, which continued to rage even as firefighters and water-bearing planes began arriving from other European nations.
Officials said 34 of the 38 fires still burning today were considered out of control, while the others were only under partial control.
