Description: Located in College Station, Texas, this $7.7 million, 52-acre training facility was created by the Texas Engineering Extension Service. Disaster City® is a mock community utilizing full-scale, collapsible structures designed to simulate various levels of disaster and wreckage which can be customized for specific training needs in Urban Search and Rescue. Disaster City® features full-size, collapsible structures that replicate community infrastructure, including a strip mall, office building, industrial complex, assembly hall/theater, single-family dwelling and train derailment, as well as three rubble piles. Disaster City® has hosted numerous operational readiness exercises for military, federal, state and local search and rescue teams. The facility provides the capability to sustain training and exercises over multiple operational periods.
