Description: Built in 1875 and recently restored to full working order, the boat lift is an ingenious contraption for moving boats between the River Weaver and the Trent and Mersey Canal (which is 15 m higher). Boats are manouvred into tanks which are raised or lowered to the correct level where they can continue their journey.
