Description: This is the danish lignite or brown coal mine of Soby opened 1939 and lasted till 1970. The mine was 4000 acres big and over 2000 people worked here.
Today it's a museum with housings, a shop but also the equipment used to dig the coal.
The mine was also used as movie location for the danish Morten Korch movie "Vagabonderne paa Bakkegaarden" from 1958.
Around Herning there were also other brown coal mines so the area was also called the danish Ruhr area after the famous one in Germany.
