Description: The crash site of aircraft L4189, a British Handley Page Hampden Mark I bomber, which crashed on 30th September 1940 at Black Edge. It belonged to 106 Squadron, based at Finningley. It was on a navigation exercise at night when it crashed. In the opening years of the 21st century some small fragments of aircraft wreckage were still noted on site.

Please note that a licence to excavate or recover remains from a military aircraft crash site must first be obtained from the Ministry of Defence before any such investigations can be undertaken. The site lies on the very edge of the Peak District National Park.
