Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour

Description: The Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour is a fully operative fishing port as well as a major tourist precinct offering fresh seafood markets, restaurants, a nightclub, food stalls and a boutique brewery.

The Fishing Boat Harbour initially started with a single jetty, at the end of which was the fish market. Fisherman would discharge their catch and then proceed to the inner harbour for anchorage. A 300 metre breakwall was constructed in 1919 for the anchorage of all Fremantle fishing boats. The markets were removed from the end of the jetty in 1929 and reconstructed where the Sails Restaurant now stands. A southern breakwall was constructed in 1962 to further increase the service area of the harbour.

The facilities at Fremantle include the Western Australia's major fishing and marine industry refit site with boats coming from as far as Darwin and Esperance to use the services available.
