Description: For more than 30 years women from all over the world have enjoyed their vacation on the lovely island of Femø. The Women’s Camp on Femø is in many ways a unique blend of tradition and renewal. It is the oldest womens camp in the world -- the Women’s Movement in Denmark started the camp in 1971, and the International Week on Femø has been a part of it since 1973. Yet the many new women who join every year bring new ideas and initiatives to the camp.
The camp provides a space for diversity: It is for all women - heterosexuals and lesbians, from all over the world, of all ages - who wish to experience a society with other women. The camp provides a space for womens wishes and needs. There are activities and talking groups on a variety of subjects, you can chat, swim, paint, or just relax. There are sports-equipments, kayaks, windsurfers and musical instruments.
On Femø, you can enjoy the natural beauty of the island and at the same time experience a kind of community that other women don´t have access to in their daily lives. It is a community where we have time to talk about how things could and should be done and where everyone has the opportunity of being listened to.
The camp lasts for eight weeks. Each week has an overall theme. Non-danish speaking women are welcome on three weeks: the body and soul week, the international week and the aftercamp. The main language spoken at the international week and the aftercamp is English. At the body and soul week the main language will be Danish but we will help each other by translating during group meetings. This english version of the website only confers to these weeks.
