Description: The route was built by the Southern Pacific, and reached the town of Tehachapi in 1876, and climbs some 4,000 feet between Bakersfield and Summit Switch east of Tehachapi.
The Tehachapi Loop is located 8 miles west of Tehachapi on Woodford-Tehachapi Road.
