Description: In the ancient province of Nonthaburi, are Pak Ret, Ban Bua Thong and Ko Kret which are fertile areas on the banks of the Chao Phraya river and at just 20 km from Bangkok, make this a superb area to visit. This area is a source of great cultural interest and picturesque scenery and the small winding roads that pass through the local villages and fruit plantations make the bicycle the perfect way to discover the sights and sounds of these hidden gems.
In 1722, during the reign of King Thaisa of Ayutthaya, the island was originally called "Khlong Lat Kret Noi" which means a shortcut to Kret canal. Later the current was diverted making the canal larger and turning the cape there into an island which we now call Ko Kret. The islanders (most of them descendants of the Mon People) are well known for their craftsmanship which dates back many centuries and are famed for their distinctive style and skill at the potters wheel, much of this is still in evidence today, with a vast array of terracotta pots and mortars freely available.
The one road round the island is a treat to cycle on due to the absence of cars. The lush vegetation, flower gardens, museums and temples make this an interesting place to ride around, take pictures and soak up the history and culture which are so evident all around this fascinating island.
How to Get There

1) By Boat from Bangkok. The Chao Phraya Express Boat runs regularly from Bangkok to Koh Kret.
2) By Car. Travel to Pak Kret and take the ferry to cross the river to Koh Kret. Mostly people park the cars at Sanam Nua temple and take the ferry.
At Koh Kret, there is tourist boat running around the island during the week-end.
