Description: In the heart of Tiergarten, surrounded by a huge roundabout, this historical placemark (locally called "Gold-Else" due to the huge golden Statue on top) was recently the background for the Live8-concert (NOT Brandenburg Gate, which is another 1,5km down the east-bound road).
The column is commemorating Germany victory of Prussia in the Danish-Prussian war, over Austria in the Austro-Prussian War and France in the Franco-Prussian War (1870/1871). It was originally located in front of the Reichstag, the Nazis moved to its current spot in the mid-1930s.
