Description: The Karl-Marx-avenue is an important road in Berlin. A number of magnificent blocks of flats is worth seeing from the 1950er years. The avenue was called only large one Frankfurt road, on 21 December 1949 (Stalins 70th birthday) in Stalinallee and on 13 November 1961 in Karl-Marx-avenue was renamed. It leads the underground line 5 from the Alexanderplatz to Frankfurt gates the underground runs. The housings were conceived as worker palaces and should represent the strength of the GDR. Special meaning attained the road with the rising of the people in the GDR on 17 June 1953. The workers on the building sites of the Stalinallee at that time began on 16 June with strikes against the government of the GDR. The demonstrations spread finally in large parts of the city and continued in the entire GDR.
