Description: Most people think the Battle of Hastings was fought in Hastings. It was actually fought about 10 km due north. This is a street map of Battle. The town is named after the historic event. The town developed around the abbey, founded by William in 1067 to commemorate the battle. If you look carefully, you can see crossed swords which locate the actual battle site.
