Description: The WAB (Wengernalpbahn) runs two interesting and scenic lines in the Berner Oberland region. Both have their summit station at Kleine Scheidegg, one climbs from Lauterbrunnen, the other from Grindelwald.
The Grindelwald line start at the station in the middle of the village (where also the BOB train terminate) and desends at first to Grindelwald Grund, where there is the maintenance base of the railway. There all trains have to reverse to climb up below the Eiger mountain to Kleine Scheidegg.
The Lauterbrunnen line starts at the Lauterbrunnen an leads via the car-free village of Wengen to Kleine Scheidegg. Between Lauterbrunnen and Wengen there are two lines with different gradients, which are still both in use.
At Kleine Scheidegg passengers can change into the trains of JB (Jungfraubahn), which brings them up to the Jungfraujoch - the hightest railway station in the wolrd. |
