Description: The so-called Golden Triangle marks the border-triangle between Thailand, Laos and Myanmar (Burma) on the Mekhong River. The name is also used to described the region, which was once (in)famous for being the world´s main production area for poppies whose substances are subsequently refined into opium and heroin. It is now surpassed by Afghanistan which produces 90% of the world´s opium.
