Description: Guanabara Bay, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The rupturing of a pipeline in the morning of January 18, 2000 has been identified as the cause of this spill. The resulting slick reportedly covered about 40 km2 and did considerable damage to the bay's natural and economic health.
