If the data has been downloaded and translated or imported into another format or computer program Land Information New Zealand will not be responsible for any problems arising from the use of the data. The spelling or composition of the place names must not be altered unless the change is made to keep the name in line with a New Zealand Geographic Board Nga Pou Taunaha Aotearoa decision or to correct a known error as detailed by Land Information New Zealand. This data may be freely distributed provided that these conditions are distributed with the data and adhered to by all recipients. Accuracy: The data has largely been entered manually by operators reading from the New Zealand 260 topographic map series. Note: Users of this data are advised that New Zealand Place Names were captured for the labelling of text on the 1:50 000 Map Series. The co-ordinates were digitised at the bottom left corner of the text labels that appear on the printed map. The co-ordinates are not a GPS position for the geographic location of the feature. Having given this warning Land Information New Zealand accepts no responsibility for problems that users encounter due to using this data. If any users of the data find errors they are urged to contact us so that corrections can be made. NTHA manage and maintain this database. The names appearing on each new edition of a 260 map will be fully verified at the time of publication.
