The largest model railroad in the world! Digitally controlled - H0-scale (1:87) - up to date digital equipment (for train and light control) It is barely possible to describe this layout in short words. Mostly, because it is growing and no end in sight. The current standing can be followed up reading The Layout: Facts . In the end, we will have more than 1,000 trains hauling more than 15,000 cars (carriages) on this already largest railroad of the world. Nearly 60 computers control realistic train runs, nearly 300 vehicles, and something around 200,000 lights. All in all, about 150,000 trees, 150,000 figures, 5,000 vehicles, more than 10,000 meters track, 5,000 structures and bridges, more than 1,500 signals, 3,000 turnouts (switches), and a wonderful scenery will care for a superlative model railroad. As said before, 250,000 lamps and LEDs light up structures, street lamps, vehicles (front and rear lights), and much more! A whole day is simulated in 15 minutes from dawn to full daylight to dusk. But not as on "normal" layouts: The lights are dimmed one by one (and each one individually) using computers and our self developed hard- and software. Push buttons are mounted to the railings surrounding the layout. These "action buttons" may be used by grown-up and small kids to trigger small action scenes throughout the layout: a mine train starts, a shark chases a diver, a "GOAL!!!" - yell sounds from the soccer arena, and much more. The visitor is actually "drawn into" the action on the layout. We built and will continue to build things never seen before into the layout. The visitor can actually watch us building new phases! The scandinavian part was opened to the public on 13th July, 2005. Fall 2005, the next building phase will visually be started by removing part of the ceiling of the third floor. http://www.miniatur-wunderland.de
