Google Earth Plug-in: The Triumphal Arch - Bucharest

Info Map Comments (0) Related Files

Raised in Bucharest to commemorate Romania's Great War heros, "Arcul de Triumf" stands about 25 meters high. The first monument, made of wood, was erected on the same spot in 1922, being replaced in 1935 by the actual arch, built in Deva granite, by Architect Petre Antonescu, who is also the father of the Bucharest City Hall. The Triumphal Arch is conceived in classical style, following the model of the great Arch of Triumph in Paris.
The sculptures that decorate the monument were created by leading artists of the day, including Ion Jalea, Constantin Medrea and Constantin Baraschi.
