|The Germans considered Vlissingen an important town because of the mouth of the Westerschelde that was the entrance to the port of Antwerp. Vlissingen got the status of Verteidigungsbereich. |
Verteidigungsbereich Vlissingen consisted of coastal batteries and anti-aircraft batteries. At the northern edge of the town was a small airfield. At the inland a rather extensive Landfront protected Vlissingen.
Later Vlissingen became part of Festung Walcheren.
