|The Batman Bridge is the first cable-stayed bridge in Australia crossing the Tamar River in northern Tasmania. The bridge is on the Batman Highway connecting the West Tamar Highway to the East Tamar Highway.|
The bridge's deck is supported by a single A-frame pylon constructed on the west bank of the Tamar river, on a solid dolerite rock base. The east bank being soft clay is not capable of supporting the bridge. A causeway carries the highway across this soft base, supported by piers built on piles into the clay.
The bridge is named after John Batman, a Launceston businessman and founder of Melbourne
