Google Earth Plug-in: The Ladby viking burial ship

Info Map Comments (0) Related Files

The Ladby Viking Burial Ships is an attraction of international formate and so far this has been clearly indicated by the audience mixture. However, with the new exhibition wing the museum gets a unique possibility to tell the many stories connected to the grave and thereby it will also be a very attractive destination for the Danish audience. It is in acknowledgement to these possibilities that the museum changes its name from the Ladbyship Museum to the Vikingmuseum in Ladby.

Originally the museum was built to present the Ladby Ship, a prince's grave from the Viking time - the only Viking ship grave in Denmark! A prominent Viking was buried here around 925, along with his earthly goods. The ship was buried in a mound near Kerteminde Fjord, and remarkably the imprint can still be seen today.

In the summer 2007 the Vikingmuseum Ladby opens with many new initiatives and exhibitions: The visitor will be received in the newly decorated vestibule, which contains sale of tickets, museum shop and café. From here you have access to the exhibition area, which includes parts of the ground floor and later on also the basement floor.
