Google Earth Plug-in: Thanksgiving Day celebration place Bueckeberg

From 1933 to 1938 an annually celebration of the german Thanksgiving Day (Erntedankfest) was celebrated on the first Sunday in October on the Bückeberg near Hameln.

Reich Propaganda Minister Goebbels had the mandate to a rural festival so far unknown extent in free landscape design.

It provided space for more than one million visitors. Well the view into the country until after Weser Hameln and the elongated ridge of Süntel. On him was in 1938 in direct view towards a memorial for the Nazi martyr Horst Wessel built. The 12-meter-high stone pillar, on whose head a five-meter high steel swastika was crowned, in 1945 on the orders of the occupying troops dynamited. Still visible is the long path Hitler and his men went up every year to the stand of honour.

The tower was demolitioned and is partially intact on the forest ground.
