Built in the XIVth century, Bannes castle proudly stand on a rocky spur situated on the municipality of Beaumont on Dordogne.

An arched bridge, in front of entrance chatelet and a drawbridge, give access to the door of the fortress. Five towers with machicolation covered of conical roofs of slate and detached houses of various sizes enclose a small inner courtyard. A round dovecote is located in the South and the house of the guard is on the West.

It has been dismantled in 1442 at the end of the One hundred years war. Acquired in 1510 it was the object of a complete reconstruction. The current south tower, said "Henri IV tower", englobes the previous medieval tower which was of a smaller diameter.

The gate of entrance wears a decoration of flower of lily and hermines sowed on small columns framing the entrance.

The monumental fireplace of the grand-room contains a 4-storeyed decorated coat of headbands sculptured of initials L.A. (for Louis XII and Anne de Bretagne), mottos and heraldic animals.

Some rooms of the castle preserve a decoration painted in fresco, dating probably of the XVIth century.
