USS Trout (SS-566), a Tang-class submarine, was the second ship of the United States Navy to be named for the trout, small freshwater fishes highly esteemed by anglers for their gameness, their rich and finely flavored flesh, and their handsome (usually mottled or speckled) coloration.

After being docked in Key West, Florida, under the control of NAVAIR, Marine and Targets Detachment, ex-Trout was towed to INACTSHIPS in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Navy held ex-Trout for donation to a museum, but all preservation efforts failed. In May, 2008 a contract for the dismantling of ex-Trout was awarded to Esco Marine, Brownsville, Texas.
