|Seawind Barclay Curle is a British shipbuilding company. The company was founded as Barclay Curle and Company, Limited at Whiteinch in GlasgowGlasgow in 1884.|
During the First World WarWorld War I the Barclay Curle yard built several Insect class gunboatInsect class gunboats for the Royal NavyRoyal Navy.
The company ceased building ships in its Glasgow yard in 1968, and was purchased by the marine engineering company Sulzer until it was nationalised under the Aircraft and Shipbuilding Industries Act 1977 and transferred production to naval weapon systems (Sea DartSea and Sea Wolf missiles) in the late 70's, finally becoming an industrial estate in the mid 1980's. As part of the Seawind Group, the company retains shiprepair facilities in Birkenhead, Merseyside and at Appledore, Devon.
