|The Sanchi stupa, built in and around 283 BCE by the famous Indian emperor, Ashoka who had converted to Buddhism. It is located in Madhya Pradesh state of India. Built on the top of a hill, these stupas contains relics, mostly of the Buddhist disciples. Sanchi is famous throughout the world not only for its stupas, but also monasteries, temples and pillars.
